Infection Preventionist, Full Time Days
Summary
Responsible for the facility infection prevention and control program, providing a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment and preventing the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections.
Major Job Functions
Affairs with developing and presenting Infection Control in-service education for functional client departments, general orientation, annual review, medical staff and as needed
Affairs with development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and revision of Infection Prevention and Control Program goals, standards, policies and procedures
Coordinating multi-disciplinary and interdepartmental efforts to improve performance of infection prevention/control programs and services
Evaluates patient care environments and facility services for infection control practices and hazards as needed
Conducts ongoing surveillance of infections as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by reviewing microbiology laboratory results, medical records, and consultation with staff
Reports communicable diseases and supporting laboratory data not previously reported (by other persons or departments in the hospital) to county health departments
Maintains surveillance of microbiology reports for clustering of organisms, unusual pathogens or infections that require special precautions or notification to public health authorities
Participates in On-call task assignment with the Infection Preventionists, answering calls and pages during the days, nights, weekends and holidays during scheduled rotation
Minimum Qualifications
Education And Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, public health, or other related field required; coursework in biostatistics, biology, microbiology, and public health preferred
License: Current North Carolina professional license required, if applicable
Certification: Must achieve CIC certification within 2 years of hire
Experience: 3 years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting or similar required; 1 year of infection control experience preferred
