About the role

The Infection Control Coordinator assists with healthcare-associated infection (HAI) prevention programs, acts as a resource for HAI surveillance and reporting at the hospital level, participates in research projects, and helps develop and implement infection prevention policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Implement County, State, Federal, and regulatory requirements and guidelines (CDC, Joint Commission, AHCA, OSHA). Maintain current knowledge and implement changes as necessary.
• Coordinate and complete special projects as required by administration or medical staff.
• Provide input on revisions to the Infection Prevention program and staff assignments.
• Serve as administrative support for the Infection Prevention Committee.
• Apply knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, and communicable diseases to analyze and interpret data, identify nosocomial infections, trends, or clusters, and recommend or implement changes.
• Perform infection control studies, outbreak investigations, and epidemiologic work-ups as needed.
• Maintain current knowledge of communicable diseases and their impact on patients, employees, visitors, and the public.
• Maintain open communication and effective working relationships with medical staff, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and peers.
• Maintain accurate logs, statistics, and files; complete documentation in a timely manner and enter data into computer systems as required.
• Prepare and present information to appropriate committees or forums.
• Actively participate on committees and quality improvement teams related to infection control.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all reviewed information.
• Develop and review hospital policies and procedures related to Infection Control practices.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the continuous Quality Improvement Plan to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Provide leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the quality of services.
• Communicate the organizational mission and vision to staff.
• Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise).
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma (required). Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).
• Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire; must maintain for the duration of employment. Additional applicable life support certifications may be required.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements

• Extended standing or walking.
• Ability to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds.
• Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with appropriate devices.
• Frequent visual acuity for extended computer use.

Environmental Conditions

• Fast-paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations.

• Subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures.
• Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment.
• Potential exposure to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-rays, chemical exposures, and other hazards.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious or clinical hospital environments.
