Infection Preventionist (Full Time, 80 Hours per Pay Period) Battle Creek

About the role

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for detecting, documenting, analyzing, and preventing infections in patients, staff, and visitors at Bronson Methodist Hospital. They report to the Infection Prevention Manager and make critical decisions to implement infection prevention policies.

Responsibilities

  • Detect and document nosocomial infections
  • Perform daily infection control unit rounds for surveillance
  • Help perform outbreak investigations as needed
  • Monitor patients in special precautions
  • Consult with employees, physicians, patients, and families regarding infection control
  • Serve as the institutional consultant on infectious diseases and bioterrorism activity
  • Teach infection control modules during new employee orientation
  • Assess staff and physician compliance with infection control policies
  • Audit and assist in reviewing infection control policies across all Bronson departments
  • Report reportable diseases to local health departments
  • Accurately record all relevant work activities for billing and workload functions
  • Attend relevant continuing education events and meetings

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Microbiology/Nursing, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a hospital setting
  • Must attain and maintain competence in infection prevention guidelines and standards
  • Familiarity with Bronson's quality improvement processes and techniques
  • High level of interpersonal skills for accurate communication and discretion
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and departments within and outside of Bronson Healthcare Group
  • Physical demands include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and lifting light weights
  • Mental/visual fatigue due to CRT work between 70-90% of the time and work involving close tolerances and hand-eye coordination

Qualifications

  • Competency in electronic information systems, including software for data analysis and expression
  • Interpersonal skills for acquiring and giving accurate information
  • Discretion to avoid misunderstandings that could place the hospital at legal risk
  • Knowledge of Bronson's IC section of Joint Commission standards and ability to ensure compliance
