About the role
The Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)/Occupational & Environmental Health (OEH) Coordinator serves as the hospital's Infection Preventionist and supports the Infection Prevention & Control Committee. This role develops, implements, and maintains infection prevention, occupational health, and environmental health programs to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the hospital's Infection Preventionist and support the Infection Prevention & Control Committee.
- Develop, implement, and maintain infection prevention, occupational health, and environmental health programs to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Monitor infection prevention initiatives, hand hygiene, antimicrobial stewardship, exposure control, respiratory protection, and other regulatory compliance programs.
- Conduct audits, infection prevention rounds, and surveillance activities to ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Track, analyze, and report infection prevention and occupational health data, key performance indicators (KPIs), and regulatory reporting requirements, including NHSN, CMS, OSHA, and DOH.
- Collaborate with physicians, leadership, Human Resources, Facilities, and external agencies to support quality improvement, patient safety, and employee health initiatives.
- Develop and deliver education and training related to infection prevention, occupational health, and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in accreditation activities, emergency response efforts, process improvement initiatives, and departmental budget planning.
- Travel to satellite clinics on O'ahu and Hawaii Island as needed.
Requirements
- Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaii.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to hire.
- Minimum of one (1) year of Infection Prevention & Control or Occupational & Environmental Health/Employee Health experience.
- Experience documenting patient care using an electronic medical record (EMR).
- Strong computer skills, including data entry and word processing.
- Ability to compile, analyze, and interpret data while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
- APIC Certification.
- Previous Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) and/or Occupational & Environmental Health (OEH) experience.
- Experience with National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) reporting.
- Wound care experience.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace applications.
- Knowledge of infection prevention regulations, quality improvement initiatives, and healthcare accreditation standards.
Qualifications
