About The Role
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following Essential Duties satisfactorily.
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Be proficient in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) as required
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- Determine welding position and type of metal to be fused
- Ensure welds meet standards and specifications
- Operate heavy equipment and machinery in the performance of these essential duties
- Work with and around hazardous materials, as well as at heights and in confined spaces in the performance if these essential duties
- Maintain valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company policy
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for employee job performance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor conditions, loud noise, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, varying fumes or odors; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; and work in ditches/excavations
- Work at heights, such as by working on ladders, scaffolds, platforms, tops of single and multi-story buildings, as well as working in confined spaces such as underneath single story and multi-story buildings
- Must be able to perform manual and repetitive tasks and body movements including standing and/or walking for long periods of time, bending, reaching, and/or gripping frequently, climbing, pulling and pushing
- Subject to drug screening and background checks
- May lift and carry heavy objects, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in awkward positions
- Must be able to complete job duties proficiently while adapting to changing demands and priorities
- Safety Sensitive: This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position as it requires the ability to concentrate for long periods of time while: operating, maintaining, and monitoring heavy equipment, machinery, and motor vehicles. This work will often be done with and around hazardous materials at elevated heights and confined spaces. A lapse of attention on the job could result in injury, illness, or death.
Skills & Competencies
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- 3 years experience Welder’s certification may be required depending of job specifications
- Knowledge of welding, structural brake forming and other fabrication processes along with automated welding techniques
- Ability to weld different types of material such as stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum
- Ability to communicate clearly with other employees
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to complete daily tasks with limited supervision and minimal errors requiring re-work
- Ability and willingness to work overtime and non-standard schedule: nights, weekends and holidays as/if Required
