Industrial Water/Wastewater Controls Engineer

Tetra Tech is seeking an Industrial Water/Wastewater Controls Engineer to help grow the Industrial Water Treatment Group in the Northwestern US Region. We are looking for an energetic individual to support a variety of challenging projects in mining and industrial wastewater.

About the role

The successful candidate will collaborate with Principal and Project Engineers, Scientists, and Project Managers on diverse projects. This role involves both office and field work, with a strong emphasis on technical writing and experience with environmental and industrial systems (mining or industrial plants). Industrial control systems experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with commercial/industrial clients to identify process solutions.
  • Work with internal engineering and design teams on single- and multi-disciplined projects.
  • Prepare and write proposals, technical documents, and work orders.
  • Perform calculations related to water/wastewater control systems.
  • Conduct basic electrical and controls evaluations for water treatment solutions and chemically treated processes.
  • Interface with vendors, equipment suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for solutions presented to industrial clients.
  • Travel to remote work sites throughout the Western US (approximately 50% travel required).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Controls or Chemical Engineering preferred).
  • 2+ years of industrial water treatment and controls experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Willingness to work toward Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification.
  • Experience with electrical and controls engineering.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to travel to client locations (approximately 50% travel required).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with water treatment plant operations.
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, ABB, or other DCS control systems.
  • Experience scaling up control systems, instruments, and equipment for industrial processes.
  • Ability to read and design schematics related to electrical and industrial control systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 10 lbs in the field.
  • Extended periods of sitting or standing at a desk using a computer and other office equipment.

Work Environment

  • Field work includes outdoor environments with exposure to various weather, altitude, and terrain conditions.
  • May require remaining stationary for long periods, walking, bending, lifting, and sitting for site oversight.
  • Position is open to remote candidates within the Northwestern US Region, with travel to remote job locations including Colorado or Nevada.

Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday (40 hours per week).
  • Occasionally extended hours may be required based on project or client needs.

Pay

Target salary range: $65,000 to $80,000. Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including education, relevant work experience, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies.
