Industrial Safety Specialist II

Amentum is seeking an Industrial Safety Specialist II to implement and administer project industrial safety programs, ensuring employee, public safety, and occupational health compliance with ES&H standards, federal, and state regulations.

About the role

Under limited supervision, this position serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses. The role involves technical work across a wide range of industrial safety disciplines to achieve compliance, assist in developing and maintaining safety programs, monitor hazards, investigate accidents, and recommend improvements. The position also includes conducting employee training, emergency preparedness, and providing regulatory interpretation and technical advice.

Responsibilities

• Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing safety and quality in work performance.
• Provide technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Conduct compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to meet regulatory standards.
• Recommend facilities and technological specifications to fulfill organizational safety objectives.
• Identify workplace hazards in operations and maintenance activities and develop hazard controls and mitigation strategies.
• Support worker safety and health needs, including injury and event response and case management.
• Ensure effective implementation of safety and health rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Actively participate in pre-task and safety meetings.
• Perform incident/event investigations and prepare associated reports.
• Maintain current knowledge of government agency requirements.
• Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.
• Prepare and review technical reports, correspondence, and program compliance documents.
• Establish and maintain permits as required.
• Assist in the development of industrial safety training programs and conduct training meetings.
• Perform analysis of industrial safety data.
• Provide oversight and monitoring during work task performance to verify exposure control mechanisms.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• BS and 4+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Preferred: Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) OHST, CHST, or ASP/GSP certification.
• Preferred: Experience in nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing, or petroleum refining environments.
• Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Amentum visa sponsorship.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including employment and education verification.
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
• Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns are subject to additional security requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Performs desk work, including writing and computer tasks in support of safety and health needs.
• Reviews and generates safety and health reports, records, and metrics.
• Develops and manages safety and health processes, procedures, and training.
• Performs safety and health surveillances and assessments.
• Manages records, instrumentation, and equipment related to industrial safety and hygiene.
• Oversees and mentors line management and workers on hazard control implementation.
• Responds to events, including injury/illness response and condition monitoring.
• Conducts hazard analysis and control determinations for project work activities.
• May require shift work (rotating 4 x 12 schedule), including night shifts, to support plant operations.

Pay

$89,099.71 - $136,321.63 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
