Industrial Refrigeration Technician
About This Opportunity
We are seeking an Energy Efficiency Technician (will consider a Senior level). The Energy Efficiency Technician (EET) performs facility tune-ups at industrial sites and supports various refrigeration operator coaching and strategic energy management (SEM) cohorts. The EET works closely with engineering and SEM staff to identify energy saving opportunities and guide the customer toward implementation. The EET provides refrigeration system operation expertise and is knowledgeable of other energy using subsystems. The tune-up work supported by the EET is typically focused on facilities with industrial refrigeration, but the EET is also expected to be knowledgeable in other energy using subsystems including compressed air, pumps, fans, HVAC, lighting, and boilers.
What You Will Be Doing
- Work with industrial plant managers, engineers, technicians, and electrical and mechanical service providers, to perform energy efficiency tune ups of industrial refrigeration systems.
- Identify and recommend energy saving opportunities based on observation of condition, maintenance practices, and control strategies of industrial equipment including industrial refrigeration, compressed air, pumps, fans, HVAC, lighting, and boiler systems.
- Build trust with customers and guide them toward implementation of recommended energy saving projects.
- Provide both on-site and remote support to industrial customers and contractors for the installation of industrial energy efficiency projects.
- Maintain relationship with the Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association, representing Cascade Energy with the industry and staying informed on emerging technologies and industrial refrigeration system best practices.
- Install data logging equipment, including power monitoring equipment, current transducers, and pressure transducers to verify equipment operations. Includes collecting data from distributed control systems, as well as local control systems.
- Deliver energy efficiency trainings at industrial sites.
- Support Strategic Energy Management (SEM) cohorts by providing technical support in workshops and performing site visits to identify and implement energy saving opportunities.
- Facilitate workshops for refrigeration operator cohorts for our Demand Side Management partners.
- Complete high level Microsoft Excel analysis and report writing for utility energy efficiency programs.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relative work experience (10 years for Senior) in industrial environments, including work with low-voltage systems, industrial SCADA systems, and subsystem controls.
- Active electrical license.
- Highly proficient with industrial refrigeration.
- Experience with operation and maintenance of typical industrial energy-using subsystems including compressed air, pumps, fans, HVAC, and lighting.
- Knowledge of industrial control systems.
- Proficient in the use and calibration of mechanical and electrical measurement sensors.
- Highly knowledgeable of electrical codes and safety standards.
- Proficient with wiring and electrical hardware up to 480 V.
- Familiarity with data logger troubleshooting and programming.
- Mastery of the basic principles of energy efficiency.
Preferred Characteristics and/or Skills
- Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) or equivalent (strongly preferred).
- 5+ years experience (10 years for Senior) as a refrigeration operator, refrigerated facility maintenance manager, or refrigeration service technician (strongly preferred).
- Certified Refrigeration Energy Specialist (CRES) or equivalent (preferred).
- Experience with steam and natural gas systems, including tuning burners, testing steam traps, and boiler efficiency testing is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience with process heat applications that are served by natural gas is highly desirable.
Pay & Benefits
The salary range for this position at a national level is: $61,900 - $92,900 (annualized); Senior level is: $77,400 - $116,200 (annualized).
