Key Responsibilities & Functions
- Select and mix coating liquid to produce desired color
- Mix supplied coating materials with thinners to obtain proper consistency
- Apply bond coats and standard finishes to a variety of parts or products, using spray gun or brush
- Spray surfaces of machines, manufactured products, or working area with protective or decorative material such as paint, enamel, glaze, gel-coat, or lacquer
- Paint and use of various epoxy and industrial coatings when required
- Perform painting operations which call for unusual finished specifications involving the mixing of paints to achieve special effects in shades
- Hydro
- Perform hydro blast cleaning and preparation of equipment
- Hydrostatically test and inspect tanks to locate leaks in welds and fittings, under pressure, including non-code vessels
- Hydrostatically test tanks by plugging openings and filling each tank with water and pressure
- Visually check each tank for leaks and identify leaks as applicable
- Visually inspect tank's fitting and brackets for proper welds
- Blast
- Perform tasks associated with high pressure hydro blasting, tank cleaning
- Perform various labor intensive activities in all weather conditions throughout the shift
- Work in atmospheres with low clearances, confined spaces and at heights
- Operate light and heavy equipment including: skid steers, forklifts, pressure washers, lifts and overhead cranes
- Clean metal and nonmetal surfaces through use of sandblasting equipment to prepare equipment for painting and processing through the shop
- Adjust varied amounts and mixtures of abrasive compounds and set controls to regulate amount of abrasive material flowing through sandblasting gun
- Determine the sweeping direction of blast over difficult internal or external surfaces without damage to equipment/facilities and without injury to coworkers
Requirements
- One to five years experience as a Painter/Sandblaster in industrial manufacturing, construction, or maintenance field setting is a must
- Experience with light and heavy equipment including: skid steers, forklifts, pressure washers, lifts and overhead cranes is required
- Must be able to work independently, have effective communication skills, be self-motivated and detail orientated
- Flexible – the demands of the position are widely varied – must have the ability to think on your feet, shift between jobs and assist in any area of the shop, at any time, as needed
- Excellent attendance a must – able to work overtime when required
- Strong knowledge of safe work practices; employees must also demonstrate a willingness to embrace personal responsibility for safety on the job
Physical Requirements
- Climbing – Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
- Stooping – Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
- Kneeling – Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching – Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Reaching – Extending hands and arms in any direction.
- Standing – Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Lifting – Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
- Grasping – Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Talking – Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing – Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
- Repetitive motions – Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Heavy work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
