About the Role

The Business Development Specialist (BDS) drives strategic pipeline growth by partnering with sales and marketing to generate and qualify leads, developing prospective customers into new opportunities and accounts. The BDS will grow sales-qualified leads and opportunities for strategic markets by nurturing leads, uncovering opportunities, and supporting the quality, speed, and effectiveness of the commercial pipeline. This role enables the field sales team to focus on strategic account growth by supporting customer development with priority accounts outside active campaigns.

BDSs build and share insights about customer challenges, coordinate with internal resources to establish Technetics’ value proposition, and provide solutions, ideas, and information to prospective customers. Success is measured through the creation of qualified opportunities, data quality and completeness, speed of opportunity progression, and contribution of meaningful commercial intelligence to support business decisions and growth execution.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the qualification and development of inbound leads and referrals to generate high-quality, strategically aligned opportunities.
  • Work closely with external customers and internal teams (engineering, sales, strategy) to advance opportunities and improve their quality.
  • Maintain accurate and timely Customer Resource Management (CRM) records; review and qualify leads to address directly or allocate high-potential leads per established guidelines.
  • Support commercial activity for high-value accounts outside designated strategic growth markets.
  • Assist Market Manager and Sales Manager in evaluating new strategic accounts through research and a deep understanding of the strategic growth approach.
  • Build productive relationships with prospective customers and internal stakeholders to support opportunity development and customer success.
  • Perform email, phone, and LinkedIn communications to connect, introduce Technetics, answer inquiries, and educate on initial semi-technical/product information.
  • Gather and communicate voice-of-customer feedback, market, and competitive intelligence to support strategic planning, account prioritization, and future growth initiatives.
  • Support and analyze outbound leads from marketing-led events such as trade shows, webinars, and technical training.
  • Acquire a working knowledge of the full range of products and services, understanding how they serve potential customer needs. Seek technical support initially, with the goal of working independently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field preferred; three (3) years of relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, seven (7) years of relevant business development experience is required.
  • Travel: 5-10% (domestic, by car and/or plane).

Skills & Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with multiple sales techniques (including phone and digital selling).
  • Ability to research customers, markets, and commercial opportunities and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Track record of achieving Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); understanding of sales performance metrics.
  • Industry, customer, competitor, and product knowledge is a plus.
  • Possesses a "can-do" attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on persuasive communication, tact, and negotiation.
  • Familiarity with MS Excel (analyzing spreadsheets and charts), Salesforce, and LinkedIn.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, high self-awareness, and customer focus.
  • Drives results through sound decision-making, organizational savvy, and action-oriented execution.
  • Builds effective networks, influences and persuades stakeholders, instills trust, and exhibits resilience, curiosity, and technical aptitude.
