Industrial Maintenance Technician

About the Role

This position assists within the maintenance department in handling the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing environment, including supporting production in processing, repairing equipment, and performing preventive maintenance. The role reports to the Reliability and Maintenance Manager and requires strong organizational, analytical, mechanical, troubleshooting, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings with mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and control components.
• Understand complex machine operations, including sensors, HMI screens, and basic programming.
• Apply critical thinking and advanced troubleshooting to keep production equipment operational.
• Fabricate basic components, disassemble, and assemble production equipment.
• Complete minor and major preventive maintenance on company assets and production equipment.
• Assist the facilities team in maintaining plant support equipment: air compressors, forklifts, boilers, wastewater treatment systems, fire systems, HVAC, pumps, and chillers.
• Maintain neat and orderly documentation, shop, and work areas.
• Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for preventive maintenance and component tracking.
• Perform general building cleaning and upkeep.
• Read and interpret equipment and electrical drawings to determine appropriate replacement parts.
• Troubleshoot servo-driven and PLC-based equipment.
• Maintain high-speed packing, labeling, and filling equipment.
• Support equipment improvement activities.
• Perform welding, sheet metal work, and basic shop floor metalworking.
• Use precision measurement tools with accurate data techniques.
• Investigate and resolve day-to-day manufacturing floor issues.
• Recommend and implement layout improvements for better material flow.
• Support safety-related improvements for processes and equipment.
• Other duties or projects as assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years in a similar industrial maintenance role.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Essential computer skills, including email, machine component research, and industrial computer systems.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a cross-functional team environment.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs.
• Proficiency in basic carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, metal machining, electrical control devices, mathematics, and safety.
• Ability to work efficiently both independently and in a team.
• Problem-solving experience or training (e.g., 8D, Six Sigma, DOE, SPC).
• High-speed manufacturing experience (packaging, filling, labeling).
• Continuous improvement experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in OTC or FDA-controlled environments, GMP.
• Experience with blending, filling, packaging, or automated equipment.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting bearings, belts, sprockets, gears, chains, cams, pistons, servo motors, and proper alignment techniques.
• Experience with inkjet printers, including PM and repair.
• Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical controls (120v, 24v, and 3-phase power).
• Experience with welding stainless steel.
• Fanuc robot experience.
• Experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of sensor function and use.
• Proficiency with precision measuring equipment.
• Technical proficiency in mechanical repair and understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish (preferred).
• Independent thinking and problem-solving skills.
• High level of internal collaboration across all departments.
• Some supplier/vendor contact.

Qualifications

• Two-year (or higher) technical degree and 5 years of applicable experience.

• Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to bend or reach throughout the workday.
• Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 8–10 hours in a workday.
• Ability to function in highly stressful situations.

Environmental Requirements

This is a full-time onsite position. The work environment includes moderate noise levels typical of a manufacturing setting.
