Industrial Equipment Maintenance Supervisor

About the Role

Serves as the first-line supervisor over the day-to-day operations of overhead electrical systems, water plant management, sewer/storm drain management, plumbing/sprinkler maintenance, HVAC, ventilation, and electronic controls.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and ensures contractor work is completed properly and in compliance with contract specifications.
• Ensures energy conservation measures are implemented as required by regulation.
• Provides input for yearly and five-year management updates/plans, including materials, chemicals, and budgeting for scheduled projects.
• Contributes to budget planning regarding training needs, water treatment chemicals/kits, expenditures, small equipment, and hand tools.
• Plans and schedules daily and weekly work assignments based on work orders, service orders, and standing operating orders.
• Operates government vehicles ranging from ½ ton pickups to 2-ton trucks.
• Performs repairs on HVAC and refrigeration equipment as an EPA-certified technician.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Flexible tour of duty.
• Non-sensitive security requirements; appointment subject to a favorable suitability or fitness determination.
• Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• Valid state driver’s license and EPA Certification in the repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment (required for all air conditioning mechanics per EPA no venting rule, 40 CFR, Part 82.161).
• Completion of a Supervisory Certification Program is required.
• Mission Essential (ME) position; may be required to report to work during natural disasters, inclement weather, or crises.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated based on the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. While no specific length of experience is required, you must meet the screen-out element and demonstrate through experience and training that you possess the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties at the required level. Emphasis is placed on the quality of experience rather than the duration.

• Screen-out Element: Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be capable of operating government vehicles from ½ ton pickup to 2-ton trucks.
• Selective Placement Factor: EPA Certification in the repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment is mandatory. Certification is required under EPA Regulation No. 40 CFR, Part 82.161. Technicians maintaining, servicing, or repairing low and high-pressure equipment must be certified as universal technicians.

Experience includes paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer experience through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) or other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, or social).
