Industrial Engineer - MHE Design, Implementation & Analytics

About the role

As a member of the Wayfair Industrial Engineering team, you will identify, design, and execute high-impact projects that scale our ability to deliver the perfect order. You will own the optimization of building layouts, design advanced Material Handling Equipment (MHE) systems, and partner closely with cross-functional operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Create and update detailed 2D/3D facility layouts using AutoCAD to integrate conveyors, shelving, robotics, and workstations seamlessly.
• Manage vendor relationships through the design, proposal, and RFP processes, ensuring project timelines and deliverables are strictly met.
• Perform rigorous ROI analyses (Capital vs. Labor savings) to justify engineering solutions and support data-driven procurement.
• Guide site leadership through process and equipment validation, including creating technical documentation, tracking performance metrics, and delivering training.
• Lead the deployment of automated material handling systems (e.g., sortation, robotics, conveyors) to maximize warehouse capacity and throughput.
• Serve as the engineering liaison between local site leadership and remote business partners through clear, structured communication.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience in MHE design, application engineering, or supply chain implementation.

Qualifications

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, familiarity using 3D modeling tools (e.g., Demo3D, SketchUp), and SQL to drive analytical problem-solving.
• Domain Expertise: Strong understanding of distribution center operations, racking design, and automated conveyor/sortation/robotics systems.
• Core Competencies: Detail-oriented mindset with excellent time-management skills and the ability to balance multiple overlapping projects.
