Industrial Engineer Intern (OPEX) - Fall 2026
About the Role
Phoenix Contact’s OPEX and Quality Team is offering a Fall 2026 Industrial Engineer - OPEX internship. This opportunity provides real-life experience assisting with the implementation and follow-through of OPEX and Lean manufacturing initiatives.
A typical day starts with a brief meeting with a manager or mentor, followed by work on assigned projects. These projects include continuous improvement efforts such as line balancing, value stream mapping, BiTE (cost reduction initiatives), and technical documentation creation.
This internship is unique because it offers hands-on learning in continuous improvement, electronics manufacturing, and LEAN methodologies. It’s designed to set students up for a rewarding career in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement, allowing them to add multiple projects and achievements to their resume early in their career.
Responsibilities
- Assist with OPEX and Lean manufacturing projects
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts, including line balancing and value stream mapping
- Work on BiTE (cost reduction initiatives)
- Create technical documentation
Requirements
- Must be an engineering major (Industrial Engineering preferred)
- Must be a college student during the internship
- Able to look at a computer screen for extended periods (up to 4 hours)
- Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods (2-4 hours at a time)
- Regular and on-time attendance
- Commute to the Middletown, PA office
