Industrial Engineer Automation (Packaging Operations)

Autajon Packaging Boston is a full-service packaging provider specializing in traditional folding cartons and innovative packaging solutions. Located in the greater Nashua, NH area, it partners with renowned brands such as Lindt, Hershey, Godiva, and Ferrero Rocher.
Responsibilities
Automation & Process Improvement: Lead the design, evaluation, and implementation of automated packaging solutions (robotics, vision systems, conveyor systems, palletizing, case packing, labeling, and material handling).
Analyze current packaging processes to identify automation opportunities and ROI-driven improvements.
Develop and maintain time studies, workflow analysis, value stream mapping, and capacity modeling.
Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through process redesign and automation enhancements.
Support equipment layout design and facility optimization initiatives.
Leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to optimize packaging line performance, enable predictive maintenance, and improve quality inspection accuracy.
Utilize advanced data analytics and AI-driven modeling to identify process inefficiencies, reduce downtime, and support data-driven operational decision-making.
Project Management: Manage automation and capital improvement projects from concept through implementation and post-launch optimization.
Develop project scopes, budgets, timelines, and technical specifications.
Cover equipment installation, commissioning, and validation.
Data & Performance Analytics: Collect and analyze production data to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks. Use statistical tools and simulation modeling to drive decision-making. Develop KPIs and performance dashboards to monitor packaging line productivity.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure reliability and maintainability of automated systems. Support Quality initiatives to ensure packaging integrity and compliance. Train supervisors and operators on new automated systems and workflow changes. Support safety initiatives and risk assessments related to automation implementation.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field required.
Experience: 3–7+ years of industrial engineering experience in manufacturing, preferably within packaging, food & beverage, consumer goods, or high-speed production environments. Experience implementing automation projects in packaging operations strongly preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies. Experience with AutoCAD or other layout/design software. Knowledge of OEE tracking, time studies, and capacity modeling. Familiarity with ERP/MES systems. Strong data analysis skills (Excel, Minitab, Power BI or similar).

Physical & Work Environment
Works in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts and packaging equipment.
Regular floor presence required.
May require occasional travel to vendors or other facilities.
