Serves as an Industrial Engineer supporting the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Distribution Site, focusing on the study, design, and planning of layout and processes for integrated systems involving people, materials, and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Act as a technical consultant to Distribution Site Leadership on all industrial engineering aspects.
- Provide advisory services, planning, and problem-solving to maintain a safe, orderly, and clean work environment.
- Advise on implementing best industry practices to improve processes and ensure smooth workflows for production and delivery based on customer demand.
- Integrate quality improvements into workflows using proven methods and techniques.
- Demonstrate best methods for reducing non-productive time during setup or changeovers between operations.
- Facilitate training for supervisors and managers on documenting work methods, establishing expectations, and defining performance metrics.
Requirements

- Must possess or obtain a REAL ID or acceptable identification for accessing federal facilities.
- Must obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by installation, federal, state, and local laws.
- Position may require working various shifts at DLA Distribution Norfolk, VA.
Qualifications
To qualify, your resume and supporting documentation must demonstrate:
- Basic Requirement: A Bachelor's Degree or higher in professional engineering from an ABET-accredited program or a program including differential and integral calculus plus advanced courses in five of the following seven areas:
- statics, dynamics;
- strength of materials (stress-strain relationships);
- fluid mechanics, hydraulics;
- thermodynamics;
- electrical fields and circuits;
- nature and properties of materials;
- any comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics (e.g., optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, electronics).
- Alternative Qualification: A combination of education and experience providing:
- thorough knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and
- a good understanding of engineering sciences, techniques, and their applications.
- Professional registration or licensure (e.g., Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE)).
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or equivalent.
- At least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, including those specified in the Basic Requirements.
- A related bachelor's degree (e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, geology) with at least 1 year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent, including:
- Applying industrial engineering principles to develop, execute, and advise on planning for non-capital and capital equipment requirements.
- Interpreting storage data to meet mission objectives and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Communicating effectively orally and in writing to prepare guidance, briefings, coordinate planning, document recommendations, and manage program activities.
Experience includes paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer experience through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) or other organizations.
Education

- Graduate Education: One academic year of graduate education is defined by the graduate school or equivalent to 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours).
- Foreign Education: Must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in foreign education equivalency to U.S. accredited programs.
Physical Demands
- Travel throughout site facilities, including warehouses and construction sites.
- Activities include walking on uneven/unimproved surfaces, kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing vertical ladders, and standing for long periods.
- Occasional lifting, moving, carrying, and loading of items up to 40 lbs.
Work Environment
- Duties conducted in a combination of office settings and warehouse/processing environments.
- Exposure to industrial storage, distribution facilities, and construction sites.
- Protective gear required, including steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and fall protection.
