About the role

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an Industrial Engineer to support the Ogden Manufacturing Facility (OMF) in Roy, UT. This role turns data and stakeholder needs into practical improvements to layouts, processes, and systems, focusing on layout design, 5S and visual management, and workflow/automation to reduce cycle time, increase capacity, and enhance overall operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Industrial Engineering fundamentals (Production Intervals, Cycle Time, Takt Time, Standard Hour Content, Time Studies, EVMS, Continuous Improvement, Scheduling, Capacity Analysis, Facility Layouts).
  • Track hardware deliveries and maintain detailed schedules and metrics for upper leadership.
  • Develop and maintain SQDEC (Schedule, Quality, Delivery, Employee, Cost) Boards with daily metrics.
  • Understand principles of capacity (efficiencies, standards, constraints) and manufacturing flows interfacing with shop floor and Global Supply Chain.
  • Develop labor standards and work measurement; create standard hour content for new scope and perform shop floor time studies.
  • Collaborate with functional teams to understand scheduling requirements at implementation sites.
  • Create detailed manufacturing waterfall schedules with setbacks to independent demands.
  • Utilize process improvement methodologies (e.g., value stream mapping, employee engagement techniques, flow reduction).
  • Design and optimize Shop Floor/Facility Layouts.
  • Understand cost management principles (Earned Value, Milestone payments).
  • Engage with product teams and functional organizations (from individual contributors to executive staff) to interpret manufacturing facilitation and scheduling requirements.
  • Document, track, and monitor problems to ensure timely resolution.
  • Coordinate with larger teams at different site locations.
  • Create and present technical briefings for upper management and technical leadership.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience with a BS; 0 years with a Masters in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Operations Research, Data Analytics, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing operations, production planning, or proposal estimating in aerospace, defense, or complex manufacturing.
  • Experience developing bases of estimate, labor estimates, staffing plans, capacity models, or proposal inputs.
  • Strong Excel modeling, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing flow, production scheduling, capacity, and shop floor execution interfaces with supply chain and quality.
  • Department of Defense (DoD) Secret (Interim) security clearance required; ability and willingness to obtain and maintain U.S. Government DoD security clearance (Secret, Top Secret, etc.) and Special Access Program (SAP) approval.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Aerospace and/or Defense Industry.
  • Experience working in Engineering, Manufacturing, and Development (EMD) phase of a program.
  • Experience working in a lab and test environment.
  • Knowledge of SAP, MES, AutoCad, and FlexSim (or other discrete simulation programs) tools and concepts.
  • Ability to create and automate Industrial Engineering performance metrics.
  • Experience with Project Management and manufacturing schedules.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Visio.

Pay

Primary salary range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

Schedule

Standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
