Industrial Designer 1

About the role

The Industrial Design team at Garmin is dedicated to creating compelling product designs that blend aesthetics, usability, and technology. You will work on a diverse range of projects, including cycling computers, outdoor handhelds, dash cams, marine radars, and wearable devices for wellness, running, outdoor, golf, kids, and scuba diving.

Responsibilities

• Explore a wide variety of compelling design options for Garmin's consumer product markets
• Understand and apply future trends in design, technology, and materials
• Create 3D models using SolidWorks and OnShape for product development and prototyping
• Communicate concepts and ideas through verbal, visual, and written means
• Understand customer needs and desires
• Collaborate with design, engineering, marketing, and management teams to translate project goals into relevant design solutions
• Work with a team of prototype specialists to create in-house appearance models

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• Must demonstrate knowledge, education, experience and/or training necessary to use tools such as SolidWorks, OnShape, Keyshot, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, and Sketchbook Pro
• Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) preferred
• Able to rapidly explore a wide variety of styling options (forms, colors, finishes, materials, etc.)
• Courage to explore new ideas

Qualifications

• Excellent hand sketching skills

Skills

• Proficiency in SolidWorks, OnShape, Keyshot, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, and Sketchbook Pro
