Industrial Designer 1

About the role

We are seeking a full-time Industrial Designer 1 at our office in Portland, OR. The Industrial Design team’s mission is to create compelling product designs that fuse aesthetics, usability, and technology.

Responsibilities

• Explore a wide variety of compelling design options for Garmin's consumer product markets
• Understand and apply future trends in design, technology, and materials
• Create 3D models using Solidworks and OnShape for product development and prototyping
• Communicate concepts and ideas through verbal, visual, and written means
• Understand needs and desires of our customers
• Collaborate with design, engineering, marketing, and management teams to translate project goals into relevant design solutions
• Work with a team of prototype specialists to create in-house appearance models

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• Must demonstrate knowledge, education, experience and/or training necessary to use tools such as SolidWorks, OnShape, Keyshot, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, and Sketchbook Pro
• Adequate hand sketching skills
• Able to rapidly explore a wide variety of styling options (forms, colors, finishes, materials, etc.)
• Courage to explore new ideas

• Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
