Industrial-Commercial Project Manager

About the role

A Project Manager’s primary responsibilities are to fulfill all aspects of the project after a purchase order has been received, ensuring that the company delivers a product that meets the client’s expectations, is of the highest quality, and is delivered on time and within budget. This involves serving as the main point of contact for all communications—directing and coordinating tasks with estimating, sales, detailing, engineering, operations, logistics, and installers. A Project Manager provides customer service, promotes the company brand, and seeks to fully understand the client’s expectations while identifying and acting on change order opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Utilize knowledge of manufacturing machinery, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and physical sciences to ensure company drawings adhere to project requirements.
• Determine dimensions, materials, and other details to create clear and complete drawings; communicate this information to detailers/drafters.
• Perform the detailer/drafter role, including material take-offs for inside sales staff and preparing detailed drawings from contract and design drawings, revisions, and bills of materials.
• Provide technical support to sales and operations personnel in a timely manner.
• Develop bills of material, material take-offs, tolerance and dimensioning of products, welding and manufacturing symbols, and other production requirements.
• Develop and maintain project schedules based on purchase order amounts and requirements; maintain forecasted schedules in the ERP system.
• Determine strategic alternatives with sales and production to maximize profit margins.
• Plan and implement all project activities, including design, detailing, engineering review, inspections, production, outside services, finishing, and shipping per purchase order terms.
• Review new or revised customer documents for changes or additions to the original scope; work with account managers or estimators to generate and follow up on change orders.
• Adhere to department policies for detailing, estimating, and engineering drawings.
• Direct, review, and approve product design changes; recommend cost, delivery, or quality improvements.
• Participate in product strategy, development, and manufacturing coordination for new, existing, and emerging products.
• Coordinate and troubleshoot all project aspects with production, sales, detailing, vendors, customers, and logistics to ensure timely completion.
• Oversee packaging and shipping requirements, including truckload planning and crate design, to ensure safe delivery to the job site; coordinate delivery with the customer.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a relevant drafting/design course of study is required.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), AutoCAD, and experience with MRP/ERP systems.
• Strategic, proactive, and persistent; able to handle multiple projects or customers simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong desire to learn new products and a positive attitude toward change.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with several years of experience in fabrication and design.
• Previous project management or detailer/drafter experience.
• Strong structural steel background.
