About the Role

As an Incident Investigator, you will conduct detailed field investigations of incidents involving City vehicles, equipment, and employees. You will document incidents, interview drivers and witnesses, retrieve surveillance video, and work closely with other agencies to ensure thorough and accurate reporting.

Responsibilities

• Respond to and investigate motor vehicle or equipment incidents involving City equipment; document damage, photograph scenes, vehicles, and evidence; interview drivers, witnesses, and passengers.
• Write detailed reports covering all aspects of City equipment incidents.
• Collaborate with Dallas Police Department investigators and officers at incident scenes.
• Canvass for and obtain video footage of incidents from various sources.
• Examine vehicles and vehicle parts, document findings, and create incident scene diagrams.
• Document unsafe acts and conditions in incident reports.
• Work with the ORM Liability Division and City Attorney’s Office on cases; act as a witness in court proceedings as needed.
• Provide training and updates to supervisors on compliance measures related to drug and alcohol testing for vehicle or equipment operators.
• Consult with emergency personnel, citizens, city employees, and department supervisors as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 2 years of experience in law enforcement, investigation, or criminal justice.
• Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Investigation, or a related field.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Skills

• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and work in adverse weather conditions.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, City Personnel Rules, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Dallas Police and Dallas Fire and Rescue Departments, Texas Code, Driver Safety Administrative Directives, and City Safety Program.
• Experience in motor vehicle law enforcement, traffic direction, interviewing, report writing, and court testimony.
• Ability to work independently in the field and make fact-based decisions.
• Knowledge of accident investigation principles, practices, and methods.
• Familiarity with the geography and characteristics of Dallas.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to follow written procedures and accurately enter data into an online report management system.
• Strong report-writing and public speaking skills.
• Ability to conduct interviews and document interactions with employees and civilians.
• Skill in accurately diagramming accident scenes.
• Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public in all situations.
• Ability to safely operate van-type vehicles and two-way radios.
• Ability to remain calm under stressful conditions and draft root cause analysis reports.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees across all departments.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $60,569.60 - $73,528.00, with the amount offered dependent upon qualifications.
