Responsibilities
- Maintain a calm, structured, and predictable environment for students temporarily removed from class.
- Apply approved trauma-informed and de-escalation strategies when students enter the room in crisis, consistent with district training.
- Facilitate restorative conversations and reflection activities to help students understand the impact of their actions.
- Support students in practicing coping and self-regulation strategies to prepare for their return to class.
- Monitor and support students' completion of assigned coursework; coordinate with classroom teachers to obtain and return assignments.
- Communicate with administration, social workers, counselors, and teachers to align supervision with students' 504 Plans, IEPs, or Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Maintain accurate, objective daily logs of student attendance, behavior, and progress in accordance with district recordkeeping procedures.
- Report suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act (325 ILCS 5) and district mandated-reporter procedures.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree, or 60 semester hours of certified college credit, required.
- Minimum age 21.
- Current CPI certification, or ability to obtain within the district's required timeframe.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport with high-risk or resistant students without personalizing challenging behavior.
- Commitment to a restorative, growth-oriented approach to student discipline and accountability.
Expectations
- Must obtain and maintain current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification, or district-designated equivalent, before independently supervising students.
- Attend district training on trauma-informed practice, mandated reporting, and the district's isolated time out / physical restraint procedures.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development as scheduled by the Director of Delta/Summit Learning Center.
Working Conditions
- Requires frequent walking, standing, and sitting;
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment;
- Requires the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions;
- May require occasional evening or weekend hours for school events or emergencies.
