In-House Healthcare Transactions Counsel (Engagement)

About the role

This role supports a well-established, California-based healthcare services organization. It focuses on leading physician practice acquisitions and related healthcare transactions within a rapidly growing provider network platform.

Responsibilities

  • Leading physician practice acquisitions and related healthcare transactions
  • Serving as a key legal partner to internal stakeholders on a steady flow of transactions
  • Navigating evolving internal processes and bringing structure and clarity
  • Building or improving legal infrastructure, such as implementing contract management systems, developing document repositories, and creating scalable workflows
  • Reviewing and negotiating payer/provider contracts

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience practicing healthcare transactional law, M&A, or physician practice acquisitions
  • Prior experience at an AMLaw 100 law firm is required
  • Substantial healthcare industry experience, including significant experience advising healthcare providers, healthcare systems, physician groups, management services organizations (MSOs), or similar healthcare organizations
  • Significant experience handling California healthcare transactions is required
  • Demonstrated experience supporting high-volume, tuck-in acquisitions of physician practices or provider groups
  • Strong experience leading transactions end-to-end, including drafting and negotiating purchase agreements and related ancillary documents
  • Proven ability to operate as a client-facing, business-oriented lawyer, partnering closely with internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with little to no oversight in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated reputation for responsiveness, follow-through, and exceptional project management, including the ability to manage both complex strategic transactions and routine day-to-day legal matters with equal attention to detail
  • Experience navigating evolving internal processes, with the ability to bring structure and clarity
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulatory considerations in transactional settings

Qualifications

  • Substantial healthcare industry experience is required, including significant experience advising healthcare providers, healthcare systems, physician groups, management services organizations (MSOs), or similar healthcare organizations
  • Significant experience handling California healthcare transactions is required

  • California Bar licensure preferred but not required

Pay

The annualized pay for this position ranges from $220,000, to $250,000, or more when calculated on a full-time basis. Pay for contract engagements is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and the candidate’s preference (each candidate’s pay rate affects the client bill rate which can affect the candidate’s competitiveness for the position).
