$20.25 - $26.33 hourly

Schedule

• Full Time – 36 hours per week
• 3 × 12-hour shifts (7:45 am – 8:15 pm)
• Weekend and holiday coverage required
• Floating to other clinics may be required

About the role

This position is located at the Immediate Care Center in Gurnee. The Immediate Care Technician supports physicians (MD) and advanced practice providers (APP) by facilitating patient flow, assisting with patient care activities, and performing related administrative functions. This role ensures efficient patient flow, maintains clean and safe patient care areas, promotes patient satisfaction, and safeguards patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assures efficient patient flow through the site:
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms, identifies patients with two identifiers, and prepares them for examination
  • Obtains accurate vital signs per organizational standards
  • Documents reason for visit and updates/confirms allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information
  • Informs MD/APP of significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms
  • Anticipates and sets up equipment or supplies needed for visits
  • Cleans and prepares exam rooms for the next patient
  • Responds to needs to expedite visits and prioritizes tasks accordingly
  • Assists with referrals, transfers, and discharge processes
• Assists MD/APP with medical and surgical procedures in accordance with established protocols, including:
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Venipuncture
  • Immunizations
  • Setting up procedure trays
  • Specimen collection and/or CLIA-waived testing
  • Wound care and splinting
• Calls in or electronically sends prescriptions as directed by the MD/APP
• Provides high-quality care by:
  • Preparing and stocking exam rooms following disinfection and sterilization protocols
  • Participating in environmental safety rounds
  • Maintaining vaccine/medication inventory
  • Ensuring medication cabinets are locked appropriately
  • Monitoring and maintaining equipment and instruments
  • Ordering supplies and disposing of expired items
  • Adhering to office opening and closing procedures
• Functions as an integral part of the patient care team and promotes patient satisfaction by:
  • Interacting professionally and cooperatively with staff
  • Accepting and performing delegated responsibilities positively
  • Offering assistance to others
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings
  • Communicating effectively with patients and the care team
  • Performing delegated procedures safely and efficiently
• May perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Must be a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with one of the following:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through AMT
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through NCCT
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through NHA
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) through NAHP
  • Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic or Basic (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) certification
  • Illinois EMT License

  New graduates within 6 months of graduation must submit a letter from their school or certifying body. Non-certified MAs or graduates past 6 months must submit a letter from the certifying body. Certification is required upon hire after up to two test attempts within the first six months of employment.

• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification
• Completion of pre-employment competency exam
• Strong computer skills

Qualifications

• Experience with electronic medical records (preferred)
• College degree or interest in the healthcare field (preferred)
• One to two years of ambulatory care experience (preferred)
