Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities, and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. This is the entry and general worker level in the building service staff positions. Employees receive on-the-job training in the application of simple manual skills and the use of cleaning and grounds tools, equipment, and supplies to clean the interior of buildings and maintain grounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repetitive cleaning tasks requiring sustained physical effort, including moving or lifting furniture and equipment (minimum 50 lbs.).
  • Maintain grounds, with primary responsibility for grounds maintenance (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.).
  • Monitor building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Follow emergency facility response procedures as required.
  • Report to buildings during inclement weather and assist staff in emergency situations as needed.
  • Perform frequent overtime or night work as required.
  • Wear provided uniforms and maintain proper attire.

Requirements

  • Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to perform manual labor.
  • Must be considered emergency personnel and report to work during inclement weather or other emergencies.
  • Must provide and maintain a current working telephone number for communication with supervisors.
  • Completion of the ninth grade required; high school or GED diploma preferred.
  • Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds.
  • Knowledge of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Skills

  • Some knowledge of methods, materials, and practices of building and grounds work.
  • Ability to learn proper operation and maintenance of custodial and grounds care equipment.
  • Ability to learn proper use of approved cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  • Basic knowledge of emergency facility response procedures.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers.

Pay

The wage range for this position is between $20.65 and $26.16 per hour, based on years of service.

Schedule

  • Part-time.
  • 12 working months per year.
  • Day shift.
