Job Summary
The Software Project Manager III supports and provides technical expertise to the Daifuku Intralogistics Project Management team. This role oversees the execution of projects involving Warehouse Controls Systems (WCS) and Warehouse Execution Systems (WES) through the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Responsibilities
- Project Management
- Thoroughly understands project scopes and requirements.
- Reads and analyzes Scope of Work/RFQ/Proposal and Estimated Cost (Cost Sales Worksheet) to perform initial gap analysis and develop a high-level software schedule.
- Provides software project management expertise for material handling automation projects involving a wide variety of equipment, machines, and technologies.
- Plans, executes, and completes material handling equipment projects involving software through the software development life cycle.
- Acts as the main point of contact for external customers to plan and manage implementation project tasks.
- Maintains contact with client representatives to identify and respond to client requests as needed.
- Aids in coordination and planning of the Business Requirement Document (BRD) and UML Diagrams.
- Aids in coordination and planning of the development hardware and network requirements.
- Aids in coordination and planning of testing lifecycles (Internal QA, Conference Room Pilot, Factory Acceptance Testing, On-Site Commissioning, User Acceptance Testing) and testing requirements.
- Aids in coordination, planning, and supporting resources with onsite activities.
- Aids in coordination, planning, and supporting Go-Live Support activities.
- Aids in coordination and planning roadmap strategy for products developed by Daifuku Intralogistics Software Engineering Group.
- Follows established workflows and processes.
- Utilizes project management tools to manage both internal and external resources to facilitate project deliverables.
- Raises project issues and risks, communicating properly to stakeholders.
- Oversight of the implementation regarding resources, timing, budget, and quality.
- Successful transition of clients from implementation to go-live.
- Helps project managers to close out projects and gain client acceptance.
- Creates, manages, and reports on WCS Software Project Portfolio within Project Web App.
- Analyzes WCS Software Resources within Project Web App to identify risk, modifications, and improvements.
- Provides support to the overall project management team assigned to the project by managing but not limited to schedule, project budget, installation plan, punchlist items, and risk assessment.
- Manages project financials for the software, including budget and forecasting, change requests, and monthly project reports.
- Communicates verbal and written project status to both customers and internal teams.
- Delivers solutions within defined budgets and aggressive timelines while following Wynright project standards.
- Attends project and client meetings, takes detailed notes, and coordinates next steps.
- Works with Corporate Services for project entry, billing, invoicing, and acceptance of project.
- Works with Corporate Services to coordinate payment terms and to keep preferred subcontractors and other vendors qualified.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Requires 4-7 years of related experience.
- Experience in the material handling industry, warehouse distribution, and warehouse automation.
- Knowledge of materials handling, WMS, WCS, WES, order fulfillment, distribution center operations, and supply chain logistics emphasis software offerings.
- Knowledge of complex warehousing functions includes but not limited to Receiving, Order Fulfillment, Shipping, Picking, Replenishment, Buffering, Order Management, and Inventory.
- Ability to understand and explain the database, server, and network requirements that support the warehouse functions.
- Knowledge of automation projects involving machines, robotics, controls, and software.
- Knowledge of automated storage and retrieval system, conveyor systems, and communication with the PLC layer.
- Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (Define, Design, Development, QA, Implementation, UAT, Training, Turnover to Support Agile or Waterfall Methodology).
- Ability to plan high level and detailed milestone schedules related to software.
- Ability to report progress, risk, delays, and any mitigation plans during the execution of the project.
- Knowledge of Team Foundation Server and SharePoint version control system.
- Utilized a task-driven system like Jira or Work Items.
- Knowledge of business practices and project management.

- Negotiate with the customer and prioritize expected software deliverables.
- Ability to manage autonomously customer relationship and expectations during the development and the implementation lifecycle.

- Ability to report on project status and financials for individual projects as well as the department software portfolio.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings as required, particularly during project go-live events.
- Strong organization and collaborative skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and listening skills.
- Ability to prepare and present to Client and/or company stakeholders vital information with minimal support and guidance.
- Technically savvy for tools required to perform at a high level with consistent results.
- Able to work collaboratively with a team as well independently.
- Power to lead internal team efforts to ensure that deadlines are met consistently.
- May assume a team lead role for a workgroup (project).
- Must be self-motivated and driven.
- Able to multitask.
- Adept to handling pressure and working under stress.
- Proven success in a customer-facing role.
- Ability to assess deliverables to ensure they correctly meet outlined design, content, and functionality requirements.
- Solid interpersonal skills with a strong sense of responsibility and personal initiative.
- Advanced Microsoft Word, Visio (plus), and Excel, with Microsoft Project skills and general knowledge of all other Microsoft Office applications.
