About the Role
This position is responsible for instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
Responsibilities
- Seek excellence from self, staff, and team.
- Participate in professional activities and upper-level events when possible.
- Attend meetings as requested by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
- Advise the Head Coach of unusual situations and keep the Head Coach informed of progress and activities of the team.
- Keep records of eligibility, contest results, and other information as requested by the Head Coach.
- Implement school and team rules.
- Have knowledge of equipment and inventory and supervise the return of school-owned equipment and uniforms at the end of the season.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the school district Athletic Policy and understand the legal responsibilities of coaches.
- Utilize sound teaching principles in instruction, motivating, and disciplining students.
- Know current rules regarding the sport and keep up to date on sport techniques, sport science, strategy, and accident prevention measures.
- Supervise all team activities and maintain discipline.
- Maintain parental contact during the sport season.
- Conduct self with proper public decorum using good judgment in quotes to media, parental contacts, public speaking, and appearance.
- Perform any other duties requested by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
- Demonstrate ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner.
- Address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner.
- Have knowledge of the sport, its rules, techniques, strategies, and teaching techniques.
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
- Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
