IBMS Head Coach - Cross Country

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to organize and lead a total sports program.
• Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• Substantial knowledge of the sport, its rules, techniques, strategies, and teaching techniques.
• Demonstrates ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner.
• Valid Type 03, 09, or 10 Illinois Teaching Certificate or ASEP or NFHS Certification.
• Ability to instruct athletes in individual and team fundamental, strategy, and physical training necessary to achieve individual and team success.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
• Ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Directs and assumes general responsibility for the total program.
• Exhibits sound judgement when delegating responsibility.
• Demonstrates supervisory and organizational skills associated with the implementation of a quality program.
• Demonstrates cooperation, and enthusiasm toward students, faculty, fellow coaches, and the public sector.
• Congducts himself/herself with proper public decorum.
• Motivates fellow coaches and student athletes by example.
• Utilizes sound teaching principles in instruction, motivating, and disciplining students.
• Plans, coordinates, supervises, and conducts a program based on the latest evidence of knowledge and skill about the game.
• Disseminates information to and instructs student athletes and fellow coaches in the above.
• Has knowledge of equipment and inventory and supervises the return of school-owned equipment and uniforms at the end of the season.
• Develops standards of conduct and safety for all student athletes.
• Adheres to these standards, instructs and supervises fellow coaches in the practice of standards.
• Promotes and adheres to school and district policies and procedures.
• Implements school rules pertaining to eligibility, athletic policy, student attendance, etc.
• Strict compliance with all IHSA/IESA rules and regulations.
• Keeps records of individual and team stats and submits those records for the permanent file.
• Attends meetings with and works with the Athletic Director in developing a competitive yearly game schedule.
• Advise the Athletic Director of unusual situations and recommend policy, method, facilities or procedural change.
• Aids the Athletic Director with preparation of an annual budget and uses proper procedures with ordering equipment.
• Exercises and teaches control and care of school-owned equipment.
• Maintains parental contact during the season when necessary.

Qualifications

• Participate in recruitment, selection, and training of Assistant Coaches.
• Maintain up-to-date on sport techniques, sport science, strategy, and accident prevention measures.
