About the role
This is a 12-month contract position based in Albany, NY, focused on IBM DB2 database administration in a Linux environment.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and upgrade IBM DB2 LUW Database servers on Linux.
- Set up database disaster recovery using HADR.
- Implement database server encryption with DB2 native encryption and IBM Guardium.
- Manage database authentication and authorization.
- Monitor and optimize database performance using tools such as db2expln, db2advis, db2top, db2diag, and db2pd.
- Handle database backup, log management, and restoration from incremental/full backup images.
- Manage database storage space (tablespaces) and memory (bufferpools), including capacity planning.
- Design and implement database changes based on business requirements; roll out changes across various environments with releases.
- Facilitate data movement across different database environments.
- Create triggers, stored procedures, functions, and indexes as per application requirements.
- Perform logical data modeling and generate ERDs using Erwin.
- Load data and resolve errors using load and import utilities.
- Profile and cleanse data using SQL statements.
- Perform database maintenance activities such as runstats, reorg, snapshots, and log pruning.
- Write and maintain bash/shell scripts and schedule tasks using cron.
- Apply basic knowledge of ETL and associated processes.
Requirements
- 6-8 years of experience in database administration.
- Mandatory skills: IBM DB2 Administration, Data Modeling, Linux.
- Desired skills: IBM InfoSphere DataStage, GCP.
Skills
- IBM DB2 LUW Database server installation, configuration, and upgrade on Linux servers.
- Database disaster recovery setup (HADR).
- Database encryption using DB2 native encryption and IBM Guardium.
- Database authentication and authorization management.
- Database monitoring and performance optimization (e.g., db2expln, db2advis, db2top, db2diag, db2pd).
- Database backup, log management, and restoration.

- Data movement across database environments.
- Creation of triggers, stored procedures, functions, and indexes.
- Logical data modeling and ERD generation using Erwin.
- Data loading and error resolution using load/import utilities.
- Data profiling and cleansing using SQL.
- Database maintenance (e.g., runstats, reorg, snapshots, log pruning).
- Bash/shell scripting and cron scheduling.
- Basic knowledge of ETL processes.
