About the Role
This position is responsible for predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance supporting chemical plant operations 24/7/365. The role involves safely troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing a wide array of electrical distribution, instrumentation, and automated control systems. Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Technical certification from an accredited trade school and/or military occupational specialty (MOS) code with rating equivalency (preferred)
- State Electrical License or certificate from a nationally recognized electrical apprenticeship training program (preferred)
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in repairing and troubleshooting automation, instruments, and controls (preferred)
- Fluent in English (oral and written)
- Strong working aptitude with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
- High electro/mechanical aptitude
- Familiarity with integrated computer maintenance management system (CMMS) software, including work order scheduling, processing, logging task details, and time tracking
- Competent in applying personal safety practices and proactively ensuring a safe work environment for teammates
- Resourceful in understanding and executing work from standard operating procedures, piping & instrumentation drawings (P&IDs), instrument loop drawings, electrical termination schedules, electrical one-line diagrams, and OEM equipment manual schematics
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and rectify issues methodically and professionally
- Must be eligible to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship provided)
Responsibilities
- Report to and carry out tasks delegated by Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Shop Supervision or Maintenance Management Staff
- Perform or participate in tasks supporting maintenance responsibilities, including plant cleanliness, warehouse operations, outage planning and execution, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Work 5/8-hour normal shifts, with possible overtime, and be willing to work scheduled 12-hour shifts as required
- Participate in a scheduled “On-Call” rotation
- Engage in project planning, updating drawings, work procedures, and spare parts inventory management
- Install new plant electrical distribution, instrumentation, and control systems equipment as scheduled
- Work with minimal supervision while regularly communicating with management regarding work progress, concerns, and questions
- Adhere to company environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures, including NFPA 70E safety standards for high-voltage electrical equipment
- Act as a liaison between work groups to improve performance and reliability of the facility
- Communicate with all work groups during scheduled downtime and plant outages
- Obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC) card
- Supply and maintain a required list of tools
- Perform upkeep of personal workspaces
- Perform other related duties as requested by the I&E Supervisor
Preferred Skills & Knowledge
- Electro/pneumatic valve actuators, I-P/P-I controllers, analog-to-digital & digital-to-analog converters, and various instrumentation transmitters
- Thermocouples/resistant temperature detectors (RTDs), pressure transducers, flow meters, accelerometers, proximity probes, and various electro-mechanical switches
- Distributed control systems (DCS), with familiarity in Schneider-Invensys Evo (helpful)
- Gas chromatographs, combustion analyzers, continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS)
- Vibration monitors, anti-surge controls, and other continuous online reliability monitoring systems
- Programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interface (HMI) displays, and variable frequency drives (VFDs), specifically Rockwell/Allen Bradley (helpful)
- Fieldbus communication protocols such as Ethernet IP, Modbus, RS-232/485, Fox-Comm, HART, Profibus, and/or other field device tool applications
- Electrical distribution hardware and software, including 4160VAC and 480VAC switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), intelligent protective relays, and transformers
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Able to wear all required personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, latex/rubber/leather gloves, safety boots, harness, FR clothing, and respirator)
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions
- Required to climb and balance confidently, including stairways, ladder ways, and towers up to elevations over 200 feet
- Ability to work safely from elevated platforms and boom lifts
- Ability to work inside confined spaces and comply with all safety and PPE requirements
- Lift, carry, and/or push up to 45 pounds
- Occasionally exert an equivalent of 100 pounds of force using mechanical devices (e.g., pulling on a winch, using a drum dolly)
- Required to walk, sit, stand, talk, and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Moderate noise levels in the work environment
- Able to drive motorized vehicles within the plant (e.g., forklift, boom-lift, scissors lift)
- Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals
