I/E Technician

About the Role

The I&E Technician performs corrective and preventative maintenance on instrumentation and electrical (I&E) systems, including analytical equipment, control elements, advanced hardware (computers, telemetry), logic networks, and related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and maintain GE PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems
  • Troubleshoot and maintain GE Cimplicity control systems
  • Diagnose and resolve computer and communication issues
  • Work with instrumentation (transmitters, control valves, meters, etc.)
  • Monitor and recognize dangerous or emergency conditions, performing necessary procedures to mitigate risks or shut down processes to protect personnel, the community, environment, and equipment
  • Coordinate with coworkers during emergency situations, including equipment or plant shutdowns and evacuations
  • Identify and correct malfunctions in individual equipment through maintenance
  • Operate in compliance with applicable regulations and procedures
  • Write repair work requests for routine and major maintenance using the CMMS (MAXIMO) maintenance reporting system
  • Follow proper Lockout/Tagout operating and safety procedures
  • Read, understand, and redline wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Interpret P&IDs, electric schematics, technical manuals, and data
  • Work under DOT, OQ, and PSM regulations
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems and components using test equipment and hand tools
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Two-year associate degree in electrical maintenance or five years of electrical maintenance experience in the commercial or petrochemical industry
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in close quarters, kneel, squat, sit, climb, and stand
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to callouts as needed
  • Ability to work abnormal shifts to meet plant conditions
  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Electric Code
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and physical
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to interface with teams and internal/external customers
  • Regular and reliable attendance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining GE PLC systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation problems
  • Experience maintaining computer systems and communications (Ethernet, fiber)
  • Ability to work as a self-starter and collaborate with peers
  • Willingness to join the Emergency Response Team

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in changing climate conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters, including kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing
