About the Role

This position is responsible for managing multiple engineering-related projects with an emphasis on Instrumentation and Electrical capital projects (small to mid-size projects). The Project Manager ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet defined requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble a full-time team to effectively execute the project.
  • Oversee the preparation and implementation of the Project Execution Plan.
  • Lead the Front-End Loading (FEL) process, complete gate reviews, and obtain management approvals.
  • Lead the Contracting Strategy effort, including contractor evaluation, bid, and award processes.
  • Manage cost, schedule, procurement, and billing payables groups.
  • Interview and approve personnel from the contractor's organization.
  • Understand contracts and manage contractors to maximize performance, control costs, and minimize claims and change orders.
  • Set up project facilities at the site and in the contractor’s office.
  • Establish safety expectations and lead the team to achieve safety goals.
  • Engage plant Operations and Maintenance personnel, ensuring they understand their responsibilities.
  • Ensure proper schedules are issued, reviewed, and used to drive project performance.
  • Maintain accuracy of cost estimates and monthly cash flow forecasts.
  • Set up programs to manage vendors, fabricators, and specialty contractors.
  • Ensure quality processes are followed.
  • Develop, gain approval for, and manage project KPIs and metrics.
  • Lead the development of a risk management plan.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to various levels of the company and stakeholders.
  • Close out projects in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Work with clients to define business requirements for projects.
  • Develop detailed work scopes aligned with client needs.
  • Create detailed control budgets to meet the scope of work.
  • Develop project timelines to meet work scope and client requirements.
  • Manage assigned resources to ensure on-time project completion.
  • Work with vendors/suppliers to acquire equipment and technology.
  • Maintain proper project documentation.
  • Promote professionalism and safety on assigned projects.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering.
  • 10 or more years of project management experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry.
  • 5 or more years of experience as a Project Manager with sole accountability for projects.
  • 14 or more years of experience in industrial work (refinery, petrochemical, chemical, offshore, pipeline, or utility industries).
  • Valid Driver’s License as per state law or requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of project management experience in Refining and/or petrochemical.
  • 10 or more years of experience as a Project Manager with sole accountability for projects.
  • Working knowledge of industry-recommended practices, design methods, and QA/QC requirements.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, industry standards, and DOT requirements.
  • Experience managing engineering and construction contractors and multiple project teams.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors in any weather.
  • Ability to work in protective clothing, which may elevate body temperature for up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • Visual acuity and ability to distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. regularly, with occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
