I&E Design Engineer
About the role
Optimized Process Designs (OPD), a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is looking for an I&E Design Engineer who thrives on technical problem solving, collaboration, and creating the foundation for successful project execution. This role serves as a key technical resource across multiple projects, partnering with Project Leads to mature project scope into well-defined design deliverables and design direction.
Our Team Optimized Process Designs is an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm executing on complex energy and infrastructure projects across North America. Their focus and expertise is in the natural gas, natural gas liquids, and petrochemical industries.
Responsibilities
Develop key front-end I&E deliverables that establish the basis for project execution, including:
- Design Basis
- Block Diagrams
- Control System Overview
- Building Layout
- Installation Details
- Equipment and Enclosure Layouts
Translate project requirements into practical and executable design solutions, identify technical risks, scope gaps, and design inconsistencies early in project development, and support multiple projects simultaneously as a shared technical resource.
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to align technical solutions, review vendor documentation and incorporate equipment package requirements into project designs, and participate in constructability reviews, field walkdowns, and factory acceptance testing activities.
Mentor and develop designers and other design engineers, and promote and reinforce a safety-first culture in all design activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Distribution, or a related engineering-based discipline, and experience developing I&E design deliverables within EPC, industrial, or oil & gas/petrochemical projects.
Skills
Broad experience across instrumentation, electrical, and controls systems, familiarity with midstream gas processing facilities, and experience developing design philosophies, control narratives, and system architectures.
Practical field or construction experience supporting EPC projects, experience participating in field walkdowns, constructability reviews, and FATs, and demonstrated ability to mentor and develop technical team members.
Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Excel.
