About the role
I&C Engineer with 8+ years nuclear plant experience. This is a contract position. You must be a US Citizen or permanent resident located in the United States. You will report to the Manager of operating Plants Electrical Engineering. You will work remote.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership
- Lead engineering efforts for plant uprate projects, including feasibility studies, system evaluations, and detailed design.
- Be the primary technical authority on uprate strategies, methodologies, and system impacts.
- Provide guidance and mentorship across electrical and instrumentation engineering disciplines.
- Instrumentation & Transmitter Engineering
- Perform and review instrumentation calculations to ensure accuracy and reliability under uprated plant conditions, including:
- Transmitter sizing and selection (pressure, flow, level, temperature)
- Measurement range determination and turndown analysis
- Process variable scaling and uncertainty/error analysis
- Loop accuracy and total loop uncertainty calculations
- Environmental and operating condition evaluations (temperature, vibration, radiation as applicable)
- Lead technical reviews of transmitter applications and installations, ensuring:
- Proper selection of sensing technologies (DP, RTD, thermocouple, ultrasonic, etc.)
- Material compatibility and process connections
- Adequate response time and dynamic performance for uprated conditions
- Compliance with design codes and plant standards
- Evaluate and validate flow measurement calculations, including:
- Differential pressure (orifice, venturi, nozzle) sizing and beta ratio selection
- Flow coefficient and Reynolds number considerations
- Impact of increased flow rates on accuracy and permanent pressure loss
- Review and approve instrument setpoints and scaling changes required for uprate operation, ensuring:
- Proper margin to design limits
- Alignment with safety analyses and protective system requirements
- Compliance with regulatory and licensing bases
- Support control system impact evaluations, including:
- Instrument loop response and stability under uprated conditions
- Interaction with control logic and plant automation systems
- Identification of required tuning or control strategy adjustments
- Provide oversight for instrumentation documentation, including:
- Data sheets, loop diagrams, and wiring diagrams
- Calibration procedures and maintenance requirements
- Design change packages and calculation packages
- Project Execution
- Develop and review engineering calculations, analyses, and design modifications.
- Support project planning, scheduling, and risk management.
- Ensure scope, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
- System and Equipment Analysis
- Evaluate plant systems across disciplines (thermal, electrical, mechanical, I&C).
- Identify required upgrades for uprate implementation.
- Perform integrated system impact assessments.
- Risk & Safety Management
- Identify risks related to uprate and system modifications.
- Ensure compliance with electrical and instrumentation safety requirements.
- Promote strong safety culture and engineering rigor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8–15 years of relevant experience in power generation or heavy industry.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Power system analysis and ETAP modeling
- Instrumentation calculations and transmitter applications
- Knowledge of plant electrical and I&C systems
- Technical leadership on complex engineering projects
- PE license preferred or ability to obtain
- Expertise in instrument uncertainty, setpoint methodologies, and flow measurement
- Nuclear industry experience (EPU, MUR, or similar uprates)
- Familiarity with control systems and process automation platforms
