Location: 739 College Ave., Lancaster, OH 43130 | Part-Time | $17.90 Hourly

Schedule

Monday–Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. (6.75 hours/day, 27 hours per week) on the 9-month school calendar.

About the Role

This is entry-level work assisting an instructor and instructor assistant in the training and personal care of individuals who have developmental disabilities. As an employee of the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities, you will comply with all Board policies, demonstrate respect for, support the dignity of, and observe the rights of all individuals served by the agency.

Responsibilities

• Assist in programming as outlined on Individualized Education Programs and as directed by the classroom instructor, instructor assistant, or supervisor (75%):
  • Help individuals maintain cleanliness and ensure safety in the changing room, locker room, bathroom, and lunchroom.
  • Follow individualized procedures for meal preparation, bathroom schedules, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records of bowel movements, incontinence, and clothing inventory.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies; report shortages to appropriate staff.
  • Use and maintain lifts properly.
  • Monitor restrooms at designated times.
  • Practice “Universal Precautions” (e.g., wear vinyl gloves) per required training.
  • Report unusual occurrences (injuries, behaviors, etc.) to appropriate staff.
  • Communicate with the team and provide positive interaction with clients.
• Perform related duties as directed by the classroom instructor or administration, such as assisting with lunch and changing clothes for pool activities (10%).
• Assist in maintaining discipline in the school cafeteria, on school grounds, and during community excursions (5%).
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and materials (3%).
• Assist in keeping student data as directed (2%).
• Foster a cooperative relationship with co-workers to facilitate Individualized Education Programs (2%).
• Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings for professional growth (1%).
• Relay program philosophy, procedures, and goals positively to the public (1%).
• Comply with Safety Rules for Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards, including protective equipment and decontamination techniques (1%).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent with additional relevant training.
• Educational Aide certification from the Ohio Department of Education.
• Physically capable of lifting, carrying, and moving enrollees (up to 50 pounds) per in-service training.
• Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
• Good communication skills; dependable and flexible.
• Willingness to learn.
• Able to tolerate up to one hour in a therapy pool with temperatures of 92°–94°F (doctor’s release required).
