About the Role

The HSE Professional anticipates and predicts hazards based on experience, historical data, and other informational sources. They identify and recognize hazards in existing or future systems, equipment, products, facilities, work sites, and operational work procedures. The role involves evaluating and assessing the probability and severity of loss events and accidents, conducting hazard analyses, and interpreting results. The HSE Professional provides advice and counseling about compliance with safety, health, and environmental laws, codes, regulations, standards, and company requirements. They collaborate with a team of HSE Professionals to share safety and health information and resources.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as OQ Evaluator for ITS, Veriforce, EWN, and AGL.
  • Issue or coordinate dissemination of PPE for new hires and maintain PPE supply and field-related items.
  • Assist field personnel in resolving safety-related matters using tools such as Samsara, SafetyCulture, and Saba.
  • Perform field inspections and investigate field injuries and "Stop Work Authority" incidents.
  • Attend bi-weekly safety meetings and HR meetings.
  • Perform OQs in the field as needed.
  • Coordinate with IT to equip CDL operators and CCTV Foremen with company-issued tools and provide usage instructions.
  • Work with other regions for job/customer-specific training and handle required documentation.
  • Communicate safety procedures clearly to employees and demonstrate detailed knowledge of OSHA and EPA guidelines.
  • Respond quickly and efficiently to emergency situations while remaining calm in a crisis.

Requirements

  • Experience/proficiency in natural gas distribution operations and procedures.
  • Understanding of DOT/FMSCA and utility damage prevention requirements.
  • Utility-related work experience and training preferred.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and travel to urban, rural, and industrial work sites in various weather conditions.
  • Degree in occupational safety, utility journeyman qualification, or 5+ years of utility experience.
  • Technical experience in utilities infrastructure construction, operation, and maintenance (e.g., electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water), including overhead/underground electric distribution systems, underground/aerial telecommunications systems, underground natural gas distribution systems, DOT/CDL-heavy equipment operations, excavating, safety management systems, or pipeline Operator Qualification.
  • Valid vehicle operator’s/driver’s license.
  • Valid authorization to legally work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical or engineering discipline and 3-5 years of safety-related or specialized technical experience.
  • Certification or pursuit of certifications such as:
    • Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST)
    • Occupational Health and Safety Technology (OHST)
    • Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP)
    • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • 1-3 years of natural gas pipeline construction experience, understanding of claims investigation, and knowledge of 811 locate requirements and excavation laws.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills, practical and creative thinking for implementing safety practices, and high attention to detail.
