Hwy Construction Technician I/II - Columbus
About the role
The position involves performing inspection duties on highway construction projects, including surveying, construction surveying, and ROW staking. It also includes the sampling and testing of construction materials and the documentation of contractor’s daily work related to highway construction. The successful candidate will be trained to operate snow removal equipment and perform snow removal activities as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspection duties on highway construction projects
- Perform preliminary and construction surveying
- Sample and test construction materials
- Document contractor’s daily work related to highway construction
- Learn mathematical skills needed to read and interpret construction and bridge plans
- Operate snow removal equipment and perform snow removal activities as needed
- Work varying hours outdoors on highway construction projects
- Provide all necessary training, materials, equipment, and safety apparel
- May perform survey duties and materials testing
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements / Qualifications
- Hwy Construction Technician I: At least 18 years old with a valid driver's license
- Hwy Construction Technician II: Experience in construction work or coursework/training in construction surveying, materials testing, or inspections practices, and ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL within 90 days of hire
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in surveying, road construction, materials testing, record keeping, trigonometry, and geometry; experience in the operation of heavy equipment or snow removal equipment; computer experience including word processing, spreadsheets, SiteManager, GEOPAK and MicroStation software

Pay
$19.941 per hour for the position of Highway Construction Technician I, with potential for additional pay differentials based on years of continuous service.
Schedule
Varying hours, typically based on the contractor's schedule, which may include nights, evenings, and weekends.
