About the role

The HW Commodity Specialist III is responsible for managing the Break-Fix Spares category within the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) domains. This role involves building global spares category strategy, defining substitution rules and sourcing lanes, setting service levels, leading cross-functional strategic sourcing teams, negotiating SLAs, and coordinating with Finance and Operations.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Break-Fix Spares category within the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) domains.
• Build Electrical/Mechanical global spares category strategy managing $50M spend across 50K+ SKUs, 100+ OEMs, and 1000+ models.
• Define substitution rules and sourcing lanes; maintain a risk log (single-source, long lead, sanctions, Conflicts of Interest).
• Set service levels by site/region; align stocking and replenishment pathways with maintenance calendars.
• Establish category sourcing strategies and lead cross-functional strategic sourcing teams.
• Run Request for Information (RFI)/Request for Proposal (RFP)/Request for Quote (RFQ) cycles; normalize bids by International Commercial Terms (Incoterms), lead times, and payment terms.
• Compare total landed cost (unit, freight, duties, taxes) and capacity coverage by region.
• Lead cross-functional reviews (Operations, Finance, Legal) and finalize award scenarios.
• Negotiate Service Level Agreements (SLAs) (On-Time Delivery (OTD), fill rate, defect rate) and credits; coordinate contract redlines with Legal.
• Build should-cost/Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models; identify consolidation and standardization opportunities.
• Structure volume brackets, term discounts, and logistics optimizations to reduce landed cost.
• Document finance-recognized savings and track realization versus plan.
• Cook up with Finance on budget envelopes and with Operations on consumption signals.
• Build dashboards using Structured Query Language (SQL).
• Run rolling demand forecasts; set safety stock and Reorder Points (ROPs) by site/criticality.
• Define weighted supplier evaluation criteria (quality, capacity, geographic coverage, ESG, price, risk).
• Validate logistics footprints and contingencies; qualify alternates for high-risk SKUs.
• Negotiate buffer stock/Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI)/consignment arrangements and escalation paths for supply recovery.
• Align warranty, returns, and service credits with operational risk and uptime objectives.
• Lead Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs)/Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) tracking performance metrics and present multi-year strategy to leadership.

Requirements

• Master's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain Management, or a related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
• Must have 1 year of experience in:
• Conducting qualitative and quantitative data analysis to support business decision making, generate recommendations, and drive actions
• Communicating complex supply planning strategies across technical and non-technical audiences, including executive level stakeholders.
• Developing functional requirements to create new tools or refine processes
• Developing business cases with policy and implementation recommendations to handle new areas of opportunity, including scaling with software
• Applying advanced analytical and operational skills in Supply Chain Management including Demand Forecasting, Inventory Policy, Strategic Sourcing, Total Cost of Ownership, and Global Logistics Management
• Utilizing Data Analytics tools (Excel, SQL, Python) to build demand forecasts, model landed costs, evaluate suppliers, plan logistics, govern supplier performance, and detect risks to prevent stockouts.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: Master's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain Management, or a related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in the same fields and 5 years of progressive postbaccalaureate experience as equivalent.

Must have 1 year of experience in:

• Conducting qualitative and quantitative data analysis to support business decision making, generate recommendations, and drive actions
• Communicating complex supply planning strategies across technical and non-technical audiences, including executive level stakeholders.
• Developing functional requirements to create new tools or refine processes
