HVAC Technician

Coastal Carolina University is seeking a full-time HVAC Technician in the Facilities Planning & Management department. This position is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across campus buildings. Technicians respond to daily work orders from staff, faculty, students, and food service, and must be available for special events, after-hours calls, and emergency/life safety situations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain heating and cooling systems through preventive maintenance
• Perform repairs on all HVAC equipment
• Maintain controls for HVAC units and buildings
• Promote and ensure best safety practices are utilized per required codes

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent and experience in the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems or in the operation and maintenance of HVAC mechanical and building control systems. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis
• Must possess and keep a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

• Three years of master mechanical experience in HVAC mechanical equipment and controls
• Extensive training in HVAC mechanical equipment and controls through sponsored schools/workshops
• Three years certification/license
• EPA-approved freon recovery certification/license

Skills

• Oral, written, and computer skills
• Ability to comprehend blueprints, plans, and specifications
• Proficiency in operating computers, calculators, copiers, telephones, power tools, acetylene torch, soldering equipment, ladders, and vehicles

Pay

SC State Pay Grade: GEN07. Salary range: $39,300.00 (minimum) – $53,100.00 (midpoint).

Schedule

• Full-time, 12-month position
• 37.5 hours per week
• Normal work schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; Friday, 6:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
• Must be flexible to meet special scheduling needs of the university, including after-hours and emergency situations
