About the role

The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This role involves diagnosing system issues, performing routine maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety codes and regulations, and recommending energy-efficient solutions to clients.

Responsibilities

• Install HVAC systems, including heating units, air conditioning units, ducts, thermostats, and refrigeration equipment.
• Ensure proper functioning of HVAC systems by testing and inspecting equipment after installation.
• Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure efficiency, safety, and optimal performance (e.g., clean or replace filters, check refrigerant levels, calibrate thermostats, lubricate moving parts).
• Inspect HVAC systems for signs of wear and tear, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC system problems, including electrical issues, refrigerant leaks, or mechanical failures.
• Repair or replace faulty components such as compressors, fans, pumps, or thermostats.
• Ensure timely and cost-effective repairs while minimizing downtime for the customer.
• Advise customers on system upgrades and energy-efficient alternatives for improving system performance.
• Install and configure energy-efficient HVAC systems and smart thermostats.
• Ensure all work meets local, state, and federal regulations, including building codes and safety standards.
• Maintain a safe work environment by following all safety protocols and wearing proper protective equipment.
• Handle refrigerants and other hazardous materials in compliance with environmental and safety laws.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in commercial HVAC systems.
• EPA Certification.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical wiring, refrigeration cycles, and trade tools.
• Understanding of relevant building codes and safety regulations.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues and find effective solutions quickly.
• Precision in installation, maintenance, and repairs to ensure systems function efficiently and safely.
• Strong communication skills to interact with customers and explain complex issues clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to measure and draw ductwork.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to maneuver around work sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients.
• Maintain physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, climbing stairs, ladders, or staging.
• Walk or stand for prolonged periods, including working outside in extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, or other inclement weather.
• Walk over rough and uneven surfaces.
• Routine lifting of up to 35 pounds.
• Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, steel-toed boots, eye protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection.
• Maintain constant mental alertness.

Working Environment

• Outdoor settings with exposure to heat, cold, and seasonal weather conditions.
• Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
• Travel to sites in Northwest Florida.
