About the Role
The HVAC Start Up Technician is responsible for diagnosing, starting up, and testing HVAC equipment on projects (split systems, mini-splits, package systems, and rooftop units) for Commercial Construction projects. This role requires commuting to both Milwaukee and Madison-based jobs, and you must be comfortable driving anywhere.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, start up, and test HVAC equipment on commercial construction projects (split systems, mini-splits, package systems, and rooftop units).
- Perform service repairs, register installations, and provide white-glove service in finished and occupied units/homes.
- Troubleshoot refrigerant issues and ensure code-compliant HVAC systems.
- Install ductwork, gas piping, condensate piping, and venting.
- Read and interpret blueprints and layouts from pre-designed or custom plans.
- Pre-plan and communicate material needs to ensure on-time delivery and availability.
- Train field crews in structural and technical aspects of the industry.
- Maintain strong knowledge of all job phases to ensure effective HVAC system installation in coordination with other trades.
- Support and enforce DJI Safety Culture by maintaining safe jobsite conditions and holding crews accountable to safety policies.
- Communicate outstanding startups and report status updates.
- Properly fill out startup forms and document startups.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 6+ years of HVAC Construction Experience or successful completion of the HVAC Apprenticeship
- EPA Certification
