HVAC Service Technician
Job Overview
Troubleshoots, installs, services, and repairs air conditioning, heating systems, and electronic control systems in buildings and offices.
Installs and services condensing and combination units on both ground level and rooftops.
Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and plenums.
Installs evaporator units in chassis or in air duct systems.
Troubleshoots and services compressors, temperature controls, and circulating ventilation fans from control panels to power sources.
Tests joints and connections for refrigerant leaks.
Observes pressure gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation.
Replaces defective controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units.
Performs preventative maintenance on all heating and ventilation equipment to include A/C units, furnaces operated on LPG, and evaporative condensers.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on air conditioning, heating, and environmental control equipment.
- Perform corrective repairs on air conditioning, heating, and environmental control equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting on air conditioning units up to 25 tons.
- Able to identify location of required parts and materials.
- Communicate with customers to identify specific and general requirements and to complete service order paperwork to include documentation of all work performed.
- Knowledgeable in all standard operation procedures within the division and work instructions.
- Participation in all APTIM/HDSS EHS and Quality procedures.
- Attend and receive certification in Community First Aid and CPR at the required intervals.
- Able to use equipment manuals and follow and understand manufacturers' specifications to include the M.S.D.S.
- Act professionally in the presence of the public and co-workers.
- Able to accurately track time, work orders, and parts using electronic devices.
- Participate in employee enhancement programs.
- Housekeeping-cleaning office and shop areas.
Basic Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Applicant must have had EPA certification for a minimum of six (6) years.
- Applicant must be able to demonstrate six (6) years full time experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, repair; or successful completion of HVAC trade school plus one (1) full year's actual experience.
- Must possess a valid California Driver's License.
- Must possess a universal EPA certification for recovery and installation of refrigerants.
- Must possess certification for recovery and installation of Refrigerant.

Working Conditions
- Position: Extensive periods outdoors.
- Frequent exposure to dust, desert pollen, extreme heat and cold associated with desert environment and natural conditions existing on Fort Irwin.
- Work Week: Monday -- Friday, 0700-1530.

The wage rates and fringe benefits for this position are governed by terms of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the company and a union with jurisdiction for the job location.
