HVAC & Refrigeration Technician
To provide Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) installation and maintenance services, including using established engineering practices to correct malfunctions, assist with design and modification, perform quality assurance and code-required testing, and conduct preventive maintenance on all types of HVAC&R and related systems. This position is accountable for the entire HVAC system and its components for the main hospital and other areas as needed. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing pneumatic and digital control systems, as well as servicing and troubleshooting equipment outside the normal range of HVAC technician duties.
Responsibilities
- Performs regular and special work assignments to maintain all HVAC&R and related systems in a functional and safe condition, meeting all applicable codes.
- Maintains knowledge and skills in diagnosing and repairing all HVAC&R equipment and systems.
- Understands heating and cooling system distribution systems throughout the facility.
- Provides continuous input on the facility’s status regarding potential code or safety issues.
- Performs preventive maintenance, testing, and inspections to reduce equipment malfunctions and ensure operational efficiency.
- Completes all work within acceptable industry codes, guidelines, and practices in a timely manner.
- Available for call during off-duty hours.
- Demonstrates resourcefulness and works toward higher skill levels and ongoing improvement in HVAC&R trades.
- Attends educational offerings to maintain and validate current trade knowledge and skills.
- Stays updated on evolving processes and practices as technology advances.
- Communicates effectively with staff to ensure proper completion of assigned tasks.
- Promotes and contributes to teamwork within the work group, engineering and maintenance division, and across the medical center.
- Assists in achieving department goals and objectives through constructive and supportive interactions.
- Recognizes the roles of others in providing patient care and shares pertinent information as requested.
- Assists peers in completing assignments and provides constructive peer evaluations.
- Participates in snow removal team duties as assigned.
- Maintains 100% on-time completion of scheduled preventive maintenance.
- Identifies and reports potential risks or problems with HVAC&R systems to the supervisor.
- Completes documentation, including daily time sheets, logs, and records, in accordance with departmental policies.
Requirements
- Illinois Driver’s License (ILSOS).
- EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification.
- Work experience in commercial and/or residential HVAC.

Pay
The compensation range for this position is $20.59 per hour to $34.39 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
