About the Role

This is skilled mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. An employee in this role performs skilled work involving installing and repairing refrigeration and air conditioning equipment according to blueprints and schematic drawings, assembling structural and functional components, and performing preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and operates varied makes of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electronic and pneumatic control systems.
  • Repairs hot water, chill water, and steam systems, including boilers, chillers, pumps, motors, valves, and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
  • Utilizes test equipment such as volt/amp/ohm meters, temperature pressure gauges for refrigerant systems, and others.
  • Uses appropriate hand and power tools for repair and installation of equipment.
  • Operates a University vehicle to travel between work sites.
  • Moves items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbs ladders to access work areas.
  • Works in closed areas of extreme hot or cold temperatures.
  • Distinguishes color-coded wiring.
  • Reads blueprints and schematics to determine location, size, capacity, and types of components needed to repair equipment and/or systems.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational, and hospital requirements.
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
  • Regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Successful completion of a program of study in HVAC at an accredited vocational/technical school may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Possession of Refrigerant Transition and Recovery certification.
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Benefits

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
