HVAC HELPER - PROVISIONAL

About the role

Responsibilities

• Assists HVAC Technicians in the preparation of work areas.
• Assists HVAC Technicians in troubleshooting problems with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
• Assists HVAC Technicians in installing and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment and preventative maintenance parts.
• Operates hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to assist in the repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
• Operates a computer to control building automation systems and keep records.
• Learns to read blueprints and schematics.
• Cleans up work area after job is complete.
• Operates a motor vehicle to reach work sites and supply centers.

Requirements

• Completion of the twelfth school grade and one (1) year of experience performing basic repairs and maintenance to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
• Possession of a certificate from a recognized vocational heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) program may be substituted for the required experience.
• A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth school grade requirement.
• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of the safety procedures and practices used when working with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
• Some knowledge of the theory of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
• Some knowledge of the techniques used to install, repair, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
• Ability to identify and use various tools of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning trade.
• Ability to climb step and extension ladders and remain stable.
• Ability to perform tasks at various heights off the ground.
• Ability to read and understand written instructions.
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Ability to identify and distinguish between colors.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull at least fifty (50) pounds.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to operate a computer and related software.
• Ability to maintain simple records.
