Job Summary
Morningside University is seeking a skilled, dependable, and service-oriented HVAC & General Electrical Technician to join our Physical Plant team. The ideal candidate will enjoy solving problems, working with their hands, and making a direct impact on the campus community.
Work Schedule
- Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- Participation in an on-call rotation as needed
Responsibilities
- Primary Focus: HVAC & Refrigeration
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC equipment, refrigeration systems, boilers, air conditioners, coolers, and freezers.
- Maintain digital and pneumatic control systems, thermostats, valves, and related HVAC controls.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical control issues.
- Monitor building automation systems to maximize efficiency and performance.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders.
- Help develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance to improve system reliability and extend equipment life.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Secondary Support: Electrical Systems
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, lighting, outlets, motors, fans, boilers, and HVAC equipment.
- Afford support for installation and maintenance of electrical systems throughout campus.
- General Maintenance
- Complete minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
- Perform basic carpentry work, including repairs to doors, locks, furniture, and fixtures.
- Afford assistance with seasonal snow removal and other campus maintenance projects.
- Complete work orders efficiently while providing exceptional service to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous HVAC experience.
- Refrigeration license.
- Working knowledge of refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- Understanding of industry safety standards and best practices.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Positive attitude, reliability, professionalism, and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting and repair.
- Experience with digital building controls and automation systems.
Physical Requirements
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- The ability to work overhead and on ladders.
- The ability to squat, bend, climb, and perform physically demanding maintenance tasks throughout the workday.
