Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints to scale dimensions and lay out overhead square and round ductwork in commercial facilities.
- Pull dimensions from key building features (walls, columns, etc.) and maintain proper elevations to avoid conflicts with other building systems.
- Plan and coordinate work with other site trades to avoid upcoming and unforeseen conflicts.
- Look ahead and schedule crew work up to 3 weeks out.
- Inventory material ahead of upcoming work to ensure the crew has all required materials and tools.
- Collaborate with Superintendent and Project Managers to achieve project completion to the customer’s satisfaction.
- Lead a 4–12-person field crew, ensuring correct and safe installation of all specified HVAC systems.
- Mentor and train newer installers, setting expectations for safety, quality, and productivity in line with AM Mechanical standards.
- Maintain a professional relationship and communication with our general contractors and site partners.
- Supervise and run installation of a variety of HVAC systems, which may include but are not limited to: Rectangular duct systems, Spiral/round duct systems, Packaged RTUs, Air handlers, Exhaust fans, Roof curbs, Unit heaters, Flex and grilles, Systems requiring basic familiarity with HVAC wiring diagrams.
- Lay out, install, and assemble facility equipment per detailed drawings and specifications.
- Work side-by-side with journeyman HVAC installers to complete daily tasks and hit schedule milestones.
- Establish and adjust work sequences to meet construction schedules, based on equipment capacities and crew size.
- Engage in field problem-solving with team members and other site personnel to keep installations coordinated and aligned with customer quality expectations.
- Operate and supervise operation of forklifts, man lifts, and power tools in accordance with company and OSHA safety standards.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma, GED, or trade school equivalent.
- At least 5 years of experience installing HVAC ductwork systems in commercial or industrial environments.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical construction materials and installation methods.
- Ability and willingness to travel 100% to projects across the country on a rotating schedule.
- Ability to work Monday–Saturday (10-hour days) with occasional evenings and Sundays as needed; flexibility with work schedule is required.
- Ability to work safely at heights, on lifts, and in active construction environments.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license; REAL ID or passport required for travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a lead installer or foreman on commercial HVAC projects.
- Military experience (veteran applicants are strongly encouraged to apply).
- Experience in mechanical construction, HVAC installation, or related trades without requiring a college degree.
- Familiarity with construction scheduling, look-ahead planning, and coordination with multiple trades.
