HVAC Equipment Service Journeyman Techncian (un)
What You Will Do
Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking skilled HVAC Mechanics to support the growth of their HVAC business in North America. Candidates should have practical work experience in HVAC piping, plumbing, pipefitting, and/or mechanical equipment service. The scope of work is limited to commercial HVACR service, including servicing centrifugal, steam turbines, absorption machines, open-drive screw chillers, and ammonia systems.
- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
- Partner with Journeymen in the repair of complex machinery such as centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon systems.
- Provide solutions and recommendations to ensure facility efficiency, including upselling opportunities.
- Write and communicate quotes to customers, participating in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
Required
- Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in HVAC, industrial petrochemical, or data center vertical environments.
- Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
- Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
- Able to install complete systems, including chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and supporting mechanical systems.
- Use mechanical shaft alignment tools and vibration equipment for troubleshooting drivelines.
- Travel up to 20% to support branch customers' activities, trouble-shooting, installation, and repair.
- Prioritize safety in all forms.

Qualifications
- Universal EPA refrigerants license.
- Applicable state or local licensing.
- Valid driver's license.
Benefits
The position is a Bargaining Unit Position and benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. This is a Bargaining Unit Position but is subject to all pre-hiring screening by JCI. With successful performance, JCI may recommend you to the Union Local apprenticeship program, as well as continued employment at JCI. Acceptance by the Union Local must occur within 365 days of employment or termination of this position will result. This is not a guarantee of employment or entering the Union. The Union has its own entry, qualification, and screening programs.
