About the role

Pennsylvania College of Technology seeks a skilled HVAC Control Mechanic to support the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems across campus facilities. This role ensures safe and efficient operation of boilers, chillers, air handlers, refrigeration units, and related electrical components, and plays a key role in maintaining a safe, comfortable learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls on a 24-hour basis as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Repair, maintain, and install electrical systems and equipment such as motors, transformers, controls, etc., consistent with all electrical requirements relevant to the maintenance of mechanical equipment and new College construction.
  • Plan, lay out, and install such electrical apparatus and equipment.
  • Adjust and monitor combination oil and gas burners for efficient and smooth operation.
  • Change hermetically-sealed compressors when needed.
  • Change and adjust thermostatic expansion valves when needed.
  • Repair and replace malfunctioning or worn components of existing refrigeration systems when needed.
  • Evacuate refrigeration systems and properly recharge systems with correct refrigerant.
  • Install new heating and cooling systems and extensions of same as needed.
  • Establish and maintain equipment testing facilities for in-house utilization.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, and some chemicals in HVAC products. May require climbing or working off of ladders and scaffolding.
  • Lift up to 65 lbs. frequently and carry objects up to 50 lbs.

Requirements

  • Documented completion of technical courses in a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration school, institute, or branch of Armed Services.
  • Four (4) years of recent full-time experience as a commercial/industrial/institutional refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic.
  • A valid driver's license at all times.
  • Current CFC certification (Classes I and II).
  • Basic computer skills.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read diagrams, blueprints, and control prints.
  • Ability to communicate problems and/or solutions to problems to other staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain equipment testing facilities for in-house utilization.
  • Ability to diagnose heating and cooling problems/emergencies.
  • Ability to assist Supervisor of Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing Systems with maintenance of heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment and supplies.

Pay

$25.02 per hour.
