About the role

We are seeking an experienced Chiller Service Technician. This position will be responsible for performing chiller inspections and maintenance. An ideal candidate will be customer service oriented and work well with others. Position requires a high level of correspondence with Project Managers, Service Coordinators, and customers.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and unscheduled maintenance and repair of industrial mechanical systems including air cooled chillers, centrifugal chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handler units, valves, fan coil units, variable air volume systems, etc.
  • Diagnose and repair machine and equipment defects including electronic, mechanical, and electrical components related to these systems. Includes diverse service issues, obtaining replacement parts, calibrating systems to manufacturer’s recommendations, and explaining issues and corrections to customers.
  • Oversee installation and operation of various mechanical systems.
  • Lead role in defining and developing the training, materials, and tools needed to support our chiller/HVAC maintenance business.
  • Be available to work some nights or weekends, on a rotating basis, to service emergency needs of our customers.
  • Maintain good working order of company vehicle including refueling, reporting mechanical issues, and regular washing. Proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment shall always be maintained in the vehicle.
  • Maintain all relevant documentation related to services and tasks performed, including make, model, serial number, test measurements, and pictures.
  • Provide detailed, complete, and timely paperwork as required.
  • Identify and report potential business opportunities to supervisor/manager, including site visits, conference calls with subcontractors, and cost estimation.
  • Provide updates to dispatch, parts procurement, supervisors, and managers to keep the company and customers informed about work progress.
  • Schedule and coordinate services with the customer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Current HVAC certification and OSHA 10 Training
  • 5+ years of experience in chiller/HVAC maintenance, mechanical engineering, or related fields
  • Familiarity with manufacturing designs or schematics
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Good analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to train junior technicians
  • Excellent customer service skills with a desire to exceed customer expectations
  • Ability to work independently in a timely manner, ensuring the job is done correctly the first time
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software and proficiency with handheld computers (e.g., Smartphone, iPad)
  • Electrical knowledge required; EPA Certification preferred (e.g., HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer)
  • Ability to work in diverse conditions including mechanical equipment rooms with exposure to noisy operating equipment, extreme weather, risk of electrical shock (high voltage), and climbing/working at elevated heights
  • Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and balance multiple duties

Environmental Requirements

  • Required to work in a field environment at multiple customer sites on a daily basis

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to use hands to operate a computer keyboard and reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit
  • Continually required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
